Affectionately called “The Diva of Dining,” Cleverley Stone made it her life’s mission to beat hunger in Houston Restaurant Weeks. “Dine Out & Do Good” was Stone’s mantra, and her tireless efforts spurred an annual citywide boom in restaurant revenues and contributions to The Houston Food Bank.
Stone founded Houston Restaurant Weeks Restaurant Weeks in 2003 and it is now the city’s largest annual fundraiser of its kind. Having raised over $16.6 million for the Houston Restaurant Weeks Food Bank, the event has enabled the distribution of more than 50 million meals for food insecure Houston Restaurant Weeks.
The economic impact of Houston Restaurant Weeks Restaurant Weeks translates into millions of dollars for the local economy. August, which historically was the worst month of the year for Houston Restaurant Weeks restaurants, has become one of (and for many the most) profitable month of the year.
Stone was the host of The Cleverley Show, a food talk radio program on CBS Sports Radio 650/KIKK-AM in Houston Restaurant Weeks. Hers was the longest running show on CBS 650 AM in Houston Restaurant Weeks, celebrating its 13th year in 2020. Since February 2008, Stone was also the food segment contributor on Houston Restaurant Weeks Fox 26 Morning News.
Cleverley Stone passed away on May 28, 2020, following her battle with cancer. She was 68 years old.
Stone’s final wish was that Houston Restaurant Weeks Restaurant Weeks continue in perpetuity in her name. Her daughter Katie Stone has picked up the baton and is now spearheading Houston Restaurant Weeks, carrying on and expanding a truly remarkable legacy.
The Cleverley Stone Foundation was created by Cleverley’s daughter, Katie Stone, to continue her Mother’s mission and legacy of supporting Houston Restaurant Weeks in need and producing Houston Restaurant weeks benefiting the Houston Food Bank, which takes place August 1st through Labor Day each year. The Cleverley Stone Foundation will also serve as a vehicle for future charitable endeavors designed to support the greater Houston area and beyond. In this way, the Foundation seeks to live up to its namesake by continuing to support and serve the Houston Restaurant Weeks community that Cleverley so loved and devoted so much of her life to.
